New trophy for new District |

Solihull Scout County Council has recently amended its internal boundaries so that the 4 old districts have been amalgamated into two larger districts named "Cole" and "Blythe". We are now in the new Cole district along with the old South district. Confused yet ???
One result is that the trophies which the children used to compete for in disciplines such as swimming and 5 a side football etc.. need to be replaced.
1st Solihull were asked to provide and name a trophy for use at the annual swimming sports that were held at Tudor Grange. Mick Cole (leader of Nelson Sea Scouts) suggested that we name the trophy after Terry Harrison who gave 23 dedicated years service to 1st Solihull as Group Scout Leader.
So - on Saturday 15th October Terry presented the new "Terry Harrison Trophy" to 2nd Olton Scout Group who won the competition. |
Over the past couple of months we have made "behind the scenes" improvements to our storage area. Nelson have had their store room completely rebuilt with new racking which gives them much more useable space. We've also re-positioned and rebuilt the five cupboards in the passageway, replacing the ageing chipboard with thicker plywood.
Future projects will include the conversion of the back room into a Project Room with bunks and the replacement of the ceiling and lighting in the main hall. These are very expensive projects and one of the reasons why our fundraising efforts are vitally important. |

| Bonfire Night |

We held our annual bonfire and fireworks fundraiser on 5th November. Being a Saturday we had some stiff "competition" from other events in the area but still managed to attract over 1000 people. The event was a great success with over £1,800 being raised for group funds.
The group would like to thank all the people who helped in the arrangements and setting up of the event and everyone who supported us by attending the evening. |
