We have a set of badges to work towards & with our programmes we hope that the children will be able to attain them. These can be seen by clicking on the tab marked ‘Badges’. If you have any ideas for projects we could use to gain any of these awards, please let us know.
Activities
A long time ago we planted daffodil bulbs along the drive of the Millpool. Since then we have re-planted them twice & hope to have a grand show next spring. We have also planted various shrubs around the perimeter of the grounds & wild flowers to try & encourage wildlife. During the spring & summer we spend a lot of time outside & in our woods. We hope that the children will appreciate the surroundings & the freedom it gives them.
We go swimming & take part in the District Beaver Scout Swimming Gala, join in the sports day & also enjoy the Fun day when all Beaver Colonies join us for a whole day of fun, craft & games.
We are always trying to think of different things we can do that the children will enjoy.

We visited the Bear factory in Solihull where the Beavers helped to make some teddies & we were presented with our very own. The name chosen for our new member was ‘Basil’ & he will be accompanying the children home for a week each. During that time they will have to look after him, keep him safe & also try & write a diary about what he has taken part in. We hope to include some photographs of his exploits. |
We visit the IT centre at Tudor Grange School for the children to gain the IT badge.
We hope to learn about 1st Aid, build puppets & put on a play, bake biscuits, build racing cars, learn new games & above all have fun!
Sponsorship
As a District we sponsor a young boy, Ngumbi, in Kenya, through Plan International. He will be 15 next year and the money we have sent has helped to build a school in his village so that he can gain a better education & has funded lots of other things as well. It costs us about £1 per month. He sends us regular news letters & the children have learnt about where he comes from & how different his life is from theirs.
A ‘Sponsored Silence’ has been held towards the end of every year as our way of raising money for a local charity. This has proved to be a very popular evening – for children & leaders. We have to be totally silent for 30minutes. I know that doesn’t sound long but when you are 6 - 8 years old it can seem like forever. I am always surprised that at the end of the time the children want to carry on being quiet! This year the District is sponsoring Solihull Deaf Children’s Society. This Society offers support & help in lots of ways to families with a deaf child.
We try & support local charities so if you have any suggestions for next years sponsorship please let us know.
