May 1928 1st Solihull (212th Birmingham) formed. 30 boys attended Church House, Drury Lane.
Mar 1929 1st Solihull registered with The Boy Scouts Association. 40 boys and 4 leaders.
1930 The group had one pack and one troop. Cost of Church House to hire was 2/6 (12.5 p) per night. Camps were held on a farm in Hay Lane. Boys walked there with their kit in a trek cart. Weekend camp cost 2/6. Events held in Berry Hall Farm
April 1930 Boys attended a rally in Birmingham University grounds, Bournbrook. The Chief Scout, Lord Baden Powell delivered a short address.
1930 Meetings moved to an old stable in Station Road, Solihull where Abbey National now stands.
1937 British Legion Hall in Union Road used for meetings.
Mar1939 The group became “212th Birmingham - 1st Solihull British legion
Oct 1943 The group changed name to “212th Birmingham - 1st Solihull
Jan 1950 Olton Mill Pool and Spinney” purchased for £1500 by Gordon Wilcox, Group Scoutmaster.Eighteen acres, or thereabouts.
1951 A large Nissen hut was purchased ex war department, and self erected with difficulty on site
1954 Building of the current HQ commenced, designed by the Scoutmaster, Benjamin. “The Bengalow” was officially opened by Lord Aylesford

1968 The County Building erected. Lease is granted to: “The trustees of the Solihull District Scout Council”
1979 Terry Harrison and Richard Ingram are appointed Group Scout Leader and Group Chairman respectively. Considerable work is carried out in and around the building
1980 1st Solihull “Tee” shirt is introduced
1981 The Group badge is designed, approved and manufactured. The Group flag is made by one of the leaders and dedicated at St. Nicholas’ church. The HQ roof is completely reproofed.
1982 The Venture Scout Unit commenced. The boat store was built.
1983 The current main storage area was built. At the time it was known as “The Ambulance Garage” as it was let to The Solihull Society for the Physically Handicapped for garaging of their ambulance
1984 The group attend the County Camp in Dorridge Park. Many leaders and members met The Chief Scout, Michael Walsh.
Sep 1984 Beaver section formed within the group
1985 Front lawn ploughed up, levelled and seeded. Main driveway and car park resurfaced. Within the building a suspended ceiling is installed for energy saving
Oct 1987 The Mill Pool is declared a Grade A listed site, by the Nature Conservancy Council
Considerable storm damage experienced throughout the woods
May 1988 60th Birthday celebrations. Several teams from within the group complete The Lyke Wake Walk.
July 1989 A new lease is agreed with Solihull County Scout Council.
Sep 1989 The Mill Pool site is designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (S.I.N.C.)
Dec 8 1989 Gordon Wilcox passed away.
Jan 10 1990 A Memorial Service is held for Gordon Wilcox in the chapel at Solihull School.
Jan 1990 Severe storms hit Solihull. Extensive damage to trees within the Mill Pool site.
Sep 1990 Girls in Scouting’ discussions commence
Dec 1990 More severe storms and further loss of trees in the woods.
July 1991 Eleanor Lee, aged 8, became the first girl to be invested in Mohican, the District, the County and the Region immediately after the Royal Charter was revised.
Sep 1991 The Chief Scout, Garth Morrison DL, visits the group and unveils the E.G. Wilcox memorial Cabinet.
Sep 1991 An alarm system is installed in the HQ building
Jan 23 1993 At approximately 23:30 hrs during a gale, a large willow tree uproots and blocks Lode Lane to all traffic. No injuries or damage, but a very long night
Sep 1993 New showers, toilets and facilities are commissioned. The Group became a Registered Charity No. 1024384.
Dec 1993 30% of the roofing felt is removed during a gale
Mar 1994 The E.G. Wilcox Development Fund is established. The Mill Pool site and buildings are revalued.
Aug 1996 The Group holds an open house for a public debate on the proposed Forestry Management Plan. The front fence is renewed.
Nov 1996 The Forestry Management Plan commences.
Jan 1997 A second Beaver colony opens, meeting on Friday evenings.
April 1997 The first 5 year business plan is published.
July 1997 A Group Camp is held at Walesby, Nottinghamshire.
Jun 13 1998 The Group holds its 70th Birthday party onsite.
Jun 1998 The group issues a Prospectus to mark the 70th anniversary
Feb 1999 The historic 13th century bridge across the stream is unfortunately dismantled due to partial collapse.
Mar 1999 The HQ building and site are revalued for insurance purposes.
April 2000 The group commission a seismic survey of the pool to establish depths and silt levels.
July 2000 Many hundreds of man hours are spent removing a thick covering of Azola and Duckweed from the surface of the Mill Pool.
June 2001 All sections are strongly represented in a Group camp held at the Mill Pool.
Jan 2002 After 23 years Terry Harrison retires from the position of Group Scout Leader.
Aug 2002 A new foul sewer and mains water supply are installed.
July 2003 A new mains gas supply is installed
Dec 2003 The HQ building and site are revalued for insurance purposes
May 2004 The HQ is broken into and vandalised throughout. The famous 1st Solihull team spirit from it’s extended family comes to the fore as over 30 people work well into the night to begin the clear up. The coming days and weeks see hundreds of hours spent on extensive repair and replacement of damaged items.
Aug 2004 The main roof of the HQ building is replaced. A passing place is introduced in the main driveway to assist with increasing vehicular traffic. The gates are replaced and repositioned inwards of the boundary fence
Mar 2005 An 8m flagpole is installed on the front lawn.
Jan 2006 www.1stsolihull.com is launched.
